Honours to the Spanish Ambassador in Tbilisi

His Royal Highness The Crown Prince of Georgia this evening granted to  His Excellency Don Rafael Mendívil y Peydro, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to the State of Georgia, at the Office of the Spanish Embassy in Georgia , and invested the Ambassador as a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Eagle of Georgia and the Seamless Tunic of Our Lord Jesus Christ.
 
The second highest award in the Order was presented to the Ambassador with the approval of the Spanish Foreign Affairs Ministry.
 
Don Rafael Mendívil y Peydro was born in Barcelona, in the Kingdom of Spain, and read law before taking up a diplomatic career in 1974.  His Excellency has in the past been posted to the Spanish diplomatic missions in Algeria, Switzerland and the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.  He was the vice director-general for Western Europe at the General Directorate for European Foreign Policy and Consul-General for Spain in Bordeaux and Frankfurt.  He was appointed head of the Technical Office of the Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs (Spain) and later, in 1998, servered as director-general of the Spanish Foreign Service.
 
His Excellency took up his first Ambassador’s post in Warsaw in 2004, and later served as Ambassador at the Special Foreign Mission for Afghanistan and Pakistan, followed by his post as Ambassador to Bulgaria. He subsequently served as Under-Secretary in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.
The presentation was followed by a private dinner in honour of His Excellency the Spanish Ambassador to Tbilisi.
