On Sunday, 13 July 2025, the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow was the setting for the baptism of Princess Kira Leonida Romanov, daughter of HIH Grand Duke George Mikhailovich of Russia and HSH Princess Victoria Romanovna.<\/p>\n
Born on 2 June, Kira was received into the Russian Orthodox Church in accordance with tradition, exactly 40 days after her birth. The sacrament was administered by Archpriest Mikhail Ryazantsev with the blessing of the Patriarch, marking a solemn and joyful moment for the Imperial Family.<\/p>\n
The celebration brought together royals from across Europe. Among those named as godparents is HRH Prince Davit Bagration Mukhrani of Georgia, Head of the Royal House of Georgia and second cousin to HIH Grand Duke George. Although unable to attend in person, his participation reflects the deep-rooted ties between the Romanov and Bagration families.<\/p>\n
The princess\u2019s name itself carries the legacy of both dynasties. “Kira” is a name long associated with the Romanovs, notably through HIH Grand Duchess Kira Kirillovna, who was both aunt and godmother to HIH Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna. “Leonida” honors HIH Grand Duchess Leonida, born HRH Princess Leonida Bagration Mukhrani, a member of the Royal House of Georgia and the Mukhrani Royal Dynasty. Her marriage into the Romanov family represented a historic union, and her name now lives on in her great-granddaughter.<\/p>\n
The date of the baptism held special meaning, coinciding with the Synaxis of the Archangel Gabriel, a feast day that commemorates the divine messenger\u2019s many appearances throughout history. This added a layer of spiritual significance to the already momentous occasion.<\/p>\n
