His Royal Highness The Prince David Bagrationi Mukhran Batonishvili, was invited by his Special Envoy to Ireland, His Excellency Dr. the Chevalier James O\u2019Higgins Norman, to visit the \u201cAn Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na Memorial Garden\u201d.<\/p>\n
His Royal Highness immediately accepted and walked across the beautiful gardens to the monument, keenly enquiring about its significance and history. The An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na Memorial Garden honours the members of An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na (Irish Police Corps) who were killed in the service of the State. The 83 names of the members of An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na who were killed are inscribed in stone within the garden. Additionally, a specially commissioned glass sculpture commemorates the sacrifice of the families left behind and a specially commissioned stone sculpture is a tribute to all deceased members of An Garda S\u00edoch\u00e1na, the Royal Irish Constabulary and the Dublin Metropolitan Police.<\/p>\n
His Royal Highness observed several moments of silence and then walked to the wall of remembrance and bowed his head for a moment of prayer and reflection, followed by his retinue. The Prince David was very happy to have had the opportunity to pay his respects, and to remember the valiant members of the three services who died serving their country and people, often in difficult circumstances.<\/p>\n
The Prince David told the Irish members of the retinue that he was grateful to have been able to remember the fallen, who have been called to higher duty and thanked them for including this in the Visit\u2019s programme. His Royal Highness also took the opportunity to express his personal gratitude to the members of the Irish police and security forces who had so carefully and kindly assisted during his Visit to Dublin.<\/p>\n
