In the face of imminent danger following the fall of Afghanistan to the Taliban, a desperate effort was launched in late 2021 to rescue 678 Afghan civilians, many of them women, girls, and individuals who had supported the U.S. intervention, from certain death. Operation Snow Leopard, spearheaded by Karen Kraft and coordinated with Maj. Jason Hatch, sought every available avenue to ensure the safe evacuation of these at-risk individuals.
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the late Capt. Jeff Rogers, a Knight of the Order of the Eagle of Georgia, reached out to HRH Prince Davit Bagration Mukhran Batonishvili, Sovereign Head of the Royal House of Georgia. Without hesitation, Prince Davit mobilized his global network, leveraging diplomatic backchannels and direct interventions to facilitate the operation’s success. His Excellency Ambassador Shiv Shankar Nair was brought into the mission, and through meticulous coordination, safe houses were secured, providing the evacuees with much-needed refuge.
The logistical support provided by the Royal House of Georgia proved instrumental in ensuring that these individuals could be swiftly and securely transported to safety. Prince Davit’s intervention in negotiations with government officials played a decisive role in securing emergency travel documents, granting asylum, and opening humanitarian corridors. These efforts, conducted discreetly through diplomatic channels, underscored his unwavering commitment to humanitarianism and the noble duty of protecting those in need.
In recognition of his extraordinary contribution to Operation Snow Leopard, HRH Prince Davit was honored with a plaque during a Gala Dinner event on March 15, 2025. This acknowledgment stands as a testament to his selfless efforts, strategic leadership, and the moral responsibility upheld by the Royal House of Georgia in times of crisis.
The successful evacuation of these nearly 700 individuals serves as a powerful reminder that the influence of noble leadership extends beyond tradition and history. It is a force for good in the modern world. Through his actions, HRH Prince Davit reaffirmed the Royal House of Georgia’s enduring commitment to justice, humanitarianism, and the protection of the innocent.
Prince Davit has long been involved in numerous cultural and humanitarian initiatives. He played a key role in one of the largest fundraisers in GoFundMe history. In late 2021, as an extension to this same operation, HRH joined forces with UNWTO Ambassador Shiv Shankar Nair and widely popular Instagram influencer Tommy Marcus, known as meme activist Quentin Quarantino, the campaign raised $7 million to rescue approximately 2,000 Afghan reformers who had been marked for death by the Taliban.
