On the second day of the Royal Visit to Dublin, His Royal Highness The Prince David of Georgia, received His Excellency Mr. Irakli Kopladatze, Ambassador of the State of Georgia to Istanbul. The Prince David welcomed Ambassador Kopladatze in the main hall of the Stephen’s Green and Hibernian Club, which was his residence for the duration of the three-day visit.

His Excellency Mr. Kopladatze until very recently served as Georgian Ambassador to Dublin, for a number of years, before being appointed in July to his new position as Ambassador to Istanbul. Mr. Kopladatze was crucial in helping to forge the initial contacts and introductions to various departments and organisations in Ireland, in preparation for His Royal Highness’s visit to Dublin.

The very cordial meeting started with The Prince David thanking the Ambassador for coming especially from Istanbul to meet him, and thanked him for his support and for his contribution. The Ambassador presented His Royal Highness with a book relating to ancient Georgian sites linked with the Royal Bagrationi Family and the Georgian Orthodox tradition, which currently form part of Turkish territory.

During the audience, Ambassador Kopladatze was introduced to the members of the Prince’s retinue, and the Irish members of the Royal Dynastic Orders of Georgia, including Chevalier Patrick D.C.A. Guinness. The conversation was held in both English and Georgian.

Prince David was very interested in learning more about the Georgian community in Dublin and the relations between the Irish and Georgian governments and states. His Royal Highness explained to the Ambassador that he will be meeting with high-level members of Irish society, captains of industry and financiers and that he will be flying the flag for Irish investors to have a close look at investing in Georgia, especially in the agriculture and energy sectors.

His Royal Highness asked Ambassador Kopladatze to convey his personal gratitude and best wishes to Her Excellency the Georgian Minister for Foreign Affairs Maia Panjikidze, and thanked the Ambassador for his kind invitation to His Royal Highness to visit Istanbul, which he said he would very much wish to do.

The audience was attended by The Duke of San Jorge, The Marquis of Ferris, The Count of Boluda and The Baron de Giorgio, all in the Prince’s retinue, and Dr. the Chevalier James O’Higgins Norman, The Baron and Baroness McClafferty, Chevalier Patrick Guinness, The Count Roche and Mr. Galloway.
