MEMORIAL MASS PANASHVIDI IN HONOUR OF HER LATE ROYAL HIGHNESS MARIA ANTONIETTA BAGRATIONI IN ROME
A memorial mass for the eternal repose of the soul of Her late Royal Highness Princess Maria Antonietta Bagration was said in the family Pantheon of the Counts of Pasquini. Princess Maria Antonietta, spouse of His late Royal Highness Prince Irakly Bagration of Mukhrani, is the grandmother of the present Head of the Royal House of Georgia, His Royal Highness The Prince Davit.
Mass was celebrated by Georgian curate Father Ioane and was beautifully accompanied by traditional Georgian choirs. Numerous Roman members of the Georgian Royal Order of the Eagle of Georgia and the Seamless Tunic of Our Lord Jesus Christ attended the mass.
The Noble Maria Antonietta Pasquini de’ Conti di Costafiorita, daughter of Ugo, Count of Costafiorita, married His late Royal Highness Prince Irakly Bagration of Mukhrani, then Head of the Royal House of Georgia, in Rome in 1940, and they together had a son, His Royal Highness Prince Giorgi Bagration of Moukhrani, the father of Prince Davit. After the early and sad demise of Princess Maria Antonietta on 22nd February 1944, the widowed Prince Irakly took his young son to Madrid, where he became naturalised.
Having died at the early age of 33, Princess Maria Antonietta is remembered very fondly by her grandchildren, and the Prince Davit in particular has a special attachment to Italy and its people as a result of the fondness with which his late father held the country and Italians.
