ROYAL HOUSE OF PORTUGAL EXCHANGES HONOURS WITH ROYAL HOUSE OF GEORGIA
His Royal Highness The Prince Davit, Crown Prince and Head of the Royal House of Georgia and Heir to the historical Thrones of Georgia, was received at the magnificent “Jantar dos Reis” by His Royal Highness Dom Duarte Pio, The Duke of Braganza, Head of the Royal House of Portugal and Heir to the Portuguese Throne, during his royal visit to Portugal. The banquet attended by over 500 guests was held in the splendid colonnade of the Sanctuary of the Good Jesus in Braga.
The two Heads of Royal Houses were accompanied by their respective Chancellors heading the Portuguese and Georgian delegations. During a memorable visit to Portugal, The Prince Davit was struck by the hospitality of his Portuguese hosts and the beauty of the places he visited with the royal delegation.
In order to commemorate this historic and important visit, and as a demonstration of his gratitude and affection, Crown Prince Davit presented his host Dom Duarte Pio, with the highest honour of the Royal House of Georgia: the Grand Collar of the Order of the Eagle of Georgia and the Seamless Tunic of Our Lord Jesus Christ, which The Duke of Braganza reciprocated with the honours of the Royal House of Portugal. In a gesture signifying his personal appreciation, the Crown Prince of Georgia gave The Duke of Braganza a nineteenth century Icon from his own personal collection.
The exchange of honours between the two royal houses cements a historic relationship of cordial and mutual friendship, that goes back many years.
