HER MAJESTY QUEEN ELIZABETH II PRESENTED WITH THE GRAND COLLAR OF THE ORDER OF THE EAGLE OF GEORGIA

Wednesday, 8th March, 2017.

Kensington Palace, London.

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom was today presented with the Grand Collar of the Order of the Eagle of Georgia and the Seamless Tunic of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Their Royal Highness The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester received His Royal Highness The Crown Prince Davit of Georgia, Head of the Royal House of Georgia, at their residence in Kensington Palace, where Crown Prince Davit presented the insignia of Lady of the Grand Collar of the Order of the Eagle of Georgia to His Royal Highness The Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester, representing Her Majesty The Queen.

Crown Prince Davit had wished to present the gift of the Grand Collar to Her Majesty The Queen on the occasion of Her Majesty’s Official 90th Birthday on 11th June, 2016.  The Crown Prince’s wish received the most gracious acceptance of Queen Elizabeth II.

It was felt that the most appropriate moment for the formal presentation would be during the second Royal Visit which HRH Crown Prince Davit of Georgia has undertaken to the United Kingdom.  The presentation of the Order to Her Majesty continues to cement the excellent ties and relationship between the United Kingdom and the State of Georgia.

The Grand Collar is the highest grade of knighthood awarded by the Royal House of Georgia to Monarchs, Heads of State, Heads of Churches and Heads of Royal Houses.

His Royal Highness The Crown Prince of Georgia was accompanied at the Palace by The Lord Lingfield, Crown Prince’s Special Envoy to the United Kingdom, The Duke of San Jorge, Grand Chancellor of the Royal House of Georgia, and The Baron de Giorgio, Prosecutor and Referendary of the Royal House.

The Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and the Crown Prince of Georgia discussed matters of mutual interest, including British-Georgian relations and the closer ties between the two countries following independence from the former Soviet Union.  They also talked about the humanitarian and voluntary work undertaken by both The Prince Irakly Bagration Foundation in favour of dispossessed refugees in Georgia, and the well-known humanitarian and voluntary work undertaken by the Most Venerable Order of St. John of Jerusalem, of which the Duke of Gloucester is Grand Prior.

The Crown Prince Davit asked The Duke of Gloucester to convey his highest sentiments of esteem and his warmest regards and best wishes to The Queen, as well as to express his gratitude at the hospitality he received during his visit.
